Looking at it now it's hard to believe that there was pretty much nothing in Broadbeach until the 1970s. The township actually got its name in 1934 and, in 1956, the Lennons Hotel opened, but that was about it. For a time the five-storey Lennons Hotel was the tallest building on the Gold Coast!
